Memorial Day Awesomeness

Steven's last student day of school was the Friday before Memorial Day, and my last student day was Thursday, with a teacher workday on Friday. That Friday afternoon, we packed up the car for a road trip to visit Angela and Brandon in Raleigh, North Carolina!! Ten hours later, we made it safe and sound and were SO HAPPY to have arrived!

Saturday morning was all work and no play for the men in the group. The main purpose for the trip was so that the men could help Brandon build a beautiful deck to put all of his neighbors to shame. Luckily for everyone, the framing was already completed when we arrived. The weekend was beautiful (yet scorching) with only a little drizzle the first morning.

At times, it was so unbearably hot and humid around 100 degrees that I don't know how they survived! ...the spectators, not the workers...

We did go for a lovely walk in the evening for ice cream. Alas, there are no pictures of that.

While the boys worked away, the girls played...with baby Preston!!!!!!!!!!!!

First great grandbaby out of the Hamilton cousins!

The main focus of the second day was finishing the steps up to the house. Not that we didn't enjoy the challenge of stepping two feet down onto vertical slats or walking around the house, but I think Angela wanted something a tad more permanent and safe.

The final step while Matt and Steven were still there to help was to complete a row of steps around the deck.

Before the foundation piece for the final step was laid, the momentous deck building had to be commemorated...

After three exhausting days of being outside in that heat and humidity...I was okay. It could have been a little less humid, but I survived. :-) The guys did a great job and were kept well fed and hydrated, don't worry!

The boys worked so late into the night on Monday that I couldn't take a picture, and I forgot to take one early Tuesday morning before we left! The stairs turned out great, and they just had to stain it (more or less) when we left. I still need a picture of the final product!!

I love my family so much that it is always hard to part ways. This time was a bit easier because we'll see each other in a few weeks at Laura and Andy's wedding extravaganza!! Our farewells weren't "goodbye"; they really were, "See ya later..."
