Staycation Part 2

...without the sleepovers or my husband...

During the weekend of September 11th, I spent so much time with Dad and Keith (and Keith's twin Kerry) that I decided to dub it Staycation Part Two.  The festivities started on Saturday (Keith and Kerry's birthday) when we spent most of the day at the Penrod Arts Fair on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  I had never been to an arts fair before, at least not one of this size and eclectic selection.  The weather was perfect, and unfortunately I forgot my camera at home and left my camera phone in the car.  :-(  Double whammy...

My favorite artist of the day was Jura Phillips, a female artist originally from Lithuania, who resides with her family in Ohio.  Her acrylics were AMAZING!  If you visit her website, the awe doesn't quite translate like it does in person because of her lines and textures.  They were just beautiful and very reasonably priced.  If there is one thing we learned that day it is that Hoosiers love their metal lawn art.  Hot.  Items.  :-)

After a fantastic few hours at Penrod, we went back to the condo to clean up and head to dinner and a show on Mass Ave.  We started at the itty bitty BuDa Lounge, which serves up some of the best sushi and martinis in Indy!  It's technically a cigar bar, so the outside seats are best if you don't want to eat cigar-infused sushi.  Food and service were both top notch; highly recommend!

After dinner, we went to the Indianapolis City Ballet Evening With the Stars.  It was a lovely evening, except for the little girl running around during intermission that jumped on a seat, which caught my toe, tore my shoe, and left my big toe dripping in blood the rest of intermission.  Thank you, little lady.  The dancing was incredible!!  :-)

I decided to bring my husband with me for the second half of the staycation, part two, when we went back to Indy on Sunday, September 11th.  Keith, as President of Crown Hill Cemetery, was partly in charge of the Project 9/11 Memorial.  It was pouring all day, even as we were walking to the site, but by the time the dedication started, the skies started to clear and the rain stopped.  AMEN!

It was a great turnout!  Standing room only in VIP, with crowds surrounding and lining up and down the street.

Keith looked very important.  :-)

Mayor Ballard opened up the dedication.  I think he and I had the same social calendar that weekend because he also opened up the ballet event the night before.

A fireman and the artist of the eagle statue climbing up at the end of the program to unveil.

There was a helicopter flyover right before the unveiling.
