AppendectoMY!
Wednesday started off like any other day: game face on, ready to educate some minds! During first period, around 9:30, I started to have a heartburn-type ache in my belly, but I just assumed I was hungry or had to go to the bathroom.
By the start of my prep period at 10:30, I was in a considerable amount of pain but just figured it would go away. While meeting with my counterpart, he told me right then that I should go ahead and leave, but if I was going to be stubborn and try to stay that I should at least give the secretary a heads up that I might have to leave early.
I wasn't able to get much food down in the way of lunch, which hindsight was a good thing. By the end of lunch around 12:30, I was doubled over in pain and waving the white flag. I made one call to a team member, and she rallied the troops to get my classes covered and get me to the hospital.
A couple very gracious seventh grade teachers (who had just gone on prep) drove me all the way to the Noblesville ER from Indy because I wanted to be close to home when I was released. They took care of EVERYTHING from getting me checked in and calling my husband, to parking my car, to helping me walk from the bathroom. They were AMAZING!
The next few hours are kind of a blur. Steven got to the emergency care center, painkillers from Dr. Honey....I mean Dr. Heney, the better-looking young cousin of Doogie Howser. There was IV drama. The location that we drove so far to get to didn't do surgeries after a certain time of day (????), so they had to ambulance me over to a full hospital.
Went in for surgery around 8:30 that night. We were originally told that we would go home late that night, but I guess I wasn't coming off the anesthesia very well, so they decided to keep me overnight. Steven stayed up with me all night, working on his sub plans and keeping me company. They sent us home around noon on Thursday, and Steven took the day off to help take care of me.
Steven went back to work on Friday, so Dad came over to keep me company for a while during the day. We watched some tv and went for a walk because the weather was so nice.
Everything has been considerably easier than my breast tumor surgery a few years ago, and I am very thankful for that! The plan is to go to back to work on Monday, even though I know I will be drained. I figure whatever day I choose to go back, I am going to feel drained, so I might as well just go for it!
Thanks for all the calls, texts, emails, flowers, cards, visits, thoughts, and prayers!!
