We're so excited to be celebrating all of Lily's "firsts" over the next year, and since Halloween was kind of a bust for her, we really made the most of Thanksgiving!
According to our holiday schedule, this year would have been a Louisiana Thanksgiving, but we opted to stay close to home this time with the baby. This felt very odd, as we have never been left wondering what to do on turkey day. It snuck up on us so much that it took Dad calling us Wednesday night and asking if we wanted to do anything on Thursday! Ha! (In all fairness, though, he had originally thought he was busy all day Thursday.) Since it was very last minute, Dad had the very enticing idea of going OUT to eat for Thanksgiving dinner, and we were definitely game for that! (I had actually just seen a news story, too, about how more Americans PREFER to go out to eat on major holidays because you still get to spend time with family but don't have the hassle of food prep and cleanup. Guess that made us a statistic. Ha!)
We went to a favorite restaurant from the good old days when Dad and I were roommates. (He thinks it's funny when I use that term to describe our year of living together.) The restaurant was having a limited menu with the main draw being a flipping delicious "traditional" turkey dinner with all the fixins! Dad probably just wanted an excuse to hang out with Lily some more...

Whatever his motivations, the four of us had a great time! :-) It was really great spending the first half of the day with family! Everyone who meets Lily is so enamored with her, and the restaurant staff was no exception: As we were finishing up, one of the workers came over to our table and said joyfully, "Is this the cute baby that everyone in the kitchen keeps talking about?" Umm, of course!
After nine ounces of mouth watering turkey plus dressing, taters, beans, and cranberries, one might think we were done chowing down for the day. Au contraire! After taking turkey naps in shifts, Steven made us a delicious (duh!) filet steak dinner that evening. Yummmmmm.
That night and Friday, Steven got the Christmas lights and tree put up. He does such an amazing job with the outside lights. I'll have to try to take a pic.
We spent Saturday in Fulton at the in-laws and had a great time! The only time Lily was put down was during turkey time, and even then it wasn't for too long. :-) Lily had a great time, especially being held by her cousin Ella. She was all smiles all day, and we loved every minute of it!

Sunday was our day to just kind of hang around and relax. Lily and her daddy have such a great time together, and he's been working with her on finding her voice and making new sounds. She has had a couple isolated giggles before, but nothing like this! This is her first real time laughing, and I'm so glad we caught it on video!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, too!!

I have watched that video so many times and I tear up every time. I am so happy for you to have such a wonderful, healthy, and happy little girl! I cannot wait to meet her at Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteYou're so sweet, Ang! I miss you! Lily misses you, too, but she just doesn't know it yet. :-)
