For all of you who feel like birthdays should last a week, this blog is for you!
Typically, people all across the United States celebrate my birthday the night before by grilling out and shooting off fireworks, and I love participating in those festivities! However, given the recent heat outside and the recent heat inside (my belly), we chose to simply play it safe and stay indoors and not enjoy the crisp 100 degree after-dark weather. Sorry to everyone who bought fireworks for me! :-)
On my actual birthday, Thursday, I treated myself to a haircut in the morning and a little physical therapy tlc in the afternoon. That evening, Steven made a fantastic (duh!) dinner for the two of us; it was the kind of meal that I get sad when it's over. Or maybe that's the pregnancy talking...
On Friday, we attended the wedding of a dear friend of mine who I have known for the past thirteen years. Aiman got married in a Muslim ceremony at a local golf course club house, where the ceremony and reception were held back-to-back in the same room. It was so lovely and really quite interesting since I had never been to a wedding like that before!
Steven's parents came into town Saturday afternoon to hang out and have dinner, and time flew by as always! After scoping out the nursery (which of course made Grandma Curtis very excited!), Andy and Deb took us out to a delicious and very filling dinner. To let our food settle a wee bit before dessert, we went to the mall to ooh and aah over baby stuff. I don't know if the baby store or the chick store was the guys' favorite, but they enjoyed every tag-along minute of it! The trip to the baby store was the first time I had ever been looking for kid/baby clothes in my life, and it was so nice to do that with Lily's Grandma Curtis since I'll never be able to do that sort of thing with Mom. It was very nice and helped to lighten up an otherwise dark spot for me. We topped off the evening with Lily's favorite: Orange Leaf. :-)
On Sunday, my friend Amy came over to hang out for a while. I've been so busy with grad work and professional development lately that it seems like the only time I have seen friends have been for one of those things! Dad came up to Noblesville that evening and took us out to one of my favorite restaurants nearby. Amazingly, the temperature cooled off twenty-some degrees, which allowed us to sit outside and enjoy our din din. My fav! It was another great birthday visit, and I was sad it had to end, too. (I'm noticing a pattern...)
During those birthday celebration days, Lily's last pieces of BIG necessities for the nursery came in the mail as well as Steven finishing up building her closet that I designed, so I was able to treat myself by playing around with the little bit of baby stuff that we do have for her...
This was Lily's closet before any painting was done at all.
My closet design brought to life by my amazingly talented husband!
She has a 'lil bit of stuff to put in the closet now. :-)
And this is more or less what her nursery will look like. A few little things will be added here and there (like a changing pad and mirror), and some things might shift a bit, but overall it feels great to have this ready to go!
We are so pleased with her changing table/dresser because it was a Craig's List find! It is still in production and retails for $450-$500, and we got it for just over $100. Woohoo! Steven slapped a fresh coat of paint on there, and it is good as new!
51 days to go!!
