Two-Month Countdown

Well here we are with two months to go!  When summer started four weeks ago, I felt like we had nothing checked off our baby to-do list.  Now I'm almost ready to actually look at the list on TheBump.com...almost!  Ha!

One of the huge things we were able to check off was signing up and going to classes.  I felt very behind with this since we hadn't even signed up for any when the school year was out, but it looks like they're recommended 30 days out.  At our most recent class, I was the farthest away from their due date!  The class we just took was the one I'm sure is going to be Steven's favorite...breastfeeding.  I won't get into details or share any of the visuals, but what I will share is that I feel so much more confident, knowledgeable, and empowered going into the role of Momma since that class.  Money well spent!!  Two thumbs up for breastfeeding!

While we were in our class, Dad was at the other hospital location having his Grandparenting class, and yes, I did approve it with him to talk about that this!  I stumbled across the class while perusing for my own classes, and shared it with Dad as joke.  Here's the description:

"Say it ain't so...our baby is having a baby! Birth hasn't changed, but there are a lot of issues about birth, postpartum and child safety that have changed in the last several years. Support your child (soon to be a parent) and get the latest information that will help you with the transition of welcoming a new member into the family. Take this opportunity to consider St. Vincent from a GRANDparent's point of view. Besides someone has to teach this child about the Beatles. This one session class is taught by a childbirth educator who is also an experienced grandparent."

Next thing I know, he's signed up, too.  As glad as I was to take the feeding class, he was equally as happy that he took this class (no sarcasm!).  We met for lunch afterward to share our class stories, which were beyond hilarious.  You're going to have to wait for the book or talk to him about those!  He said he learned a great deal and feels much more confident now, too.  When asked if he would recommend this class to another adult, he said that he absolutely, 100% would.

Side story:  Dad was almost an hour late to lunch, so this pregnant lady needed a good explanation when he finally arrived.  After his class, they gave a very detailed tour of the maternity ward and women's hospital...in Indianapolis...not Carmel...close to our home...where I'm actually having the baby.  I don't know if it was necessarily a good explanation, but it definitely made me laugh.  Let's all pray that Papa Steve doesn't take Lily to the wrong doctor or something!

In other news, for those of you not associated with the Hamilton side of the family, cousin Laura HAD HER BABY THIS MORNING!!!  Harper Leigh Reynolds was born on their one-year anniversary and weighed in at 7 pounds 6 ounces and is 20.5 inches long.  I believe the whole process from triage to holding the newborn was about an hour and a half, not even time for an epidural!  Go, Laura!!  Congrats to the new parents!!

Please tell me all births are that easy!!  Anyone?  Anyone?

Now that Laura is no longer with child, I feel the reality of our situation even more.  I'll just use Laura's amazing birth experience as my guiding light over the next two months.  Congrats again to them!!
